News : Finalists Decided For Andrew Hamilton Trophy

Two teams with contrasting recent records in the Cities and Counties Championship will meet in this year’s final after Midlothian and Lanarkshire South came through their semi-finals.

After a convincing 131-110 victory over Ayrshire it will be a first appearance in the final for Midlothian since they defeated Lanarkshire in 1975 to claim the Andrew Hamilton Trophy. Lanarkshire South meanwhile squeezed out Renfrewshire South 120-118 to earn their place in the final for the third time in five years having won it in both 2006, when they beat Angus and 2008, when they beat Ayrshire.

Curiously neither team won its section to get into the knockout stages. Lanarkshire South finished runners-up to Dumfries in the South before going on to beat East winners West Lothian in the quarter-finals, while Midlothian finished second to West Lothian in the East before seeing off South winners Dumfries in their quarter-final.
